Why is Nutrition so Commercialized?

Why is the field of nutrition often more about marketing products than educating people about the fundamentals of healthy eating?

Subscribe to Dr. Gregerâ??s free nutrition newsletter at http://www.nutritionfacts.org/subscribe and get a free excerpt from his latest NYT Bestseller HOW NOT TO DIE. (All proceeds Dr. Greger receives from the sales of his books, DVDs, and speaking engagements go to support the 501c3 nonprofit that runs NutritionFacts.org.)

This is part of my extended video series on the reductionist trap. See, for example, Reductionism and the Deficiency Mentality (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/reduc...). Previous videos that touch on the topic include on Industry Response to Plants Not Pills (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/indus...) and Is the Fiber Theory Wrong? (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/is-th...).

The Five to One Fiber Rule (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/the-f...) still holds, though, since itâ??s an indication of how heavily processed a product is.

There are two sides to the intellectual property argument when it comes to food. I explore both in Plants as Intellectual Property â?? Patently Wrong? (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/plant...).

Have a question about this video? Leave it in the comment section at http://nutritionfacts.org/video/why-i... and someone on the NutritionFacts.org team will try to answer it.
