It is always a challenge to combat obesity. Disadvantages of obesity have been discussed a lot although the obese people are aware of them more than anybody else. But there are hardly any sure-fire methods which people can believe in and practice with confidence. On the other hand, it has also been observed that people are not committed to following the prescriptions in most of the cases. It is sad to see that people of all ages are getting more obese every day. We hope suggestions below will act as a step-by-step guide to people with obesity so that they can tackle the problem more effectively:

1. It is the physician who may be one of the best advisers and people having obesity problem should meet and consult with first. It is natural that the physician will check the patient's blood pressure first and learn from him/her if he/she has become obese with age or if this is a case of obesity from the early childhood. The physician will get to know the diet of the patient and other aspects of his/her lifestyle. Then the physician will suggest some common exercises and refer him/her to a dietician for further consultations.

2. The dietician will prepare a chart of the patient's age, height, weight, diet, and other daily activities. The chart will show daily food in-take and weekly weight report. The dietician will ask the patient to re-adjust his/her food in-take and daily activities as necessary.

3. Fat-free diet and food with more vegetables, less meat, and less dairy product will be suggested. The patient will not be forced to take food he/she does not like. However, there might be restrictions on certain food that he/she can take.

4. The physician and the dietician will suggest physical exercisess without which obesity cannot be fought properly. Physical exercises may include daily walking, use of trade mill or frequenting to the gym. Regularity is the key in exercises.

5. Meditation has been accepted as a form of medication and it is said that meditation provides good results.

6. People who have gained fat realize that they will gain fat even they don't eat much. That is due to tension that they build up in life. To get rid of the fat, one must lead a tension-free life.

7. One must not go for the weight loss products available in the market without getting approval from one's personal physician. Most of the products are marketing stunts and they don't really work.

8. It should also be kept in mind that in order to get rid of obesity one should never practice excessive fasting. Our body needs energy and our energy comes from food. Without sufficient food, we will not have enough energy to perform our daily task.
