It's not easy building muscle when you stop at the nearest fast-food restaurant after your regular workouts. Sitting down to a greasy hamburger or cheesy pizza slice can scuttle even the most intense of muscle-building exercise routines. Fortunately, there are plenty of foods that you can and should be eating when you're trying to build your muscle volume quickly. By including five basic foods in your diet, you'll make sure that your eating habits work together with and not against your muscle-building workouts. Every muscle-building diet should include plenty of lean ground beef. This will provide you with plenty of healthy protein, a must for building muscle mass quickly. Lean ground beef also comes packed with zinc, iron and B vitamins, making it the perfect food for anyone hoping to build muscle. You don't want to eat even lean beef at every meal. Fortunately, there's lean turkey breast. Like ground beef, turkey breast is high in protein. Also like beef, it's low in fat. Because it contains almost no fat and no carbohydrates, turkey breast should be a staple of your diet. You have to serve something with both your turkey and your lean ground beef. Why not try broccoli? Or, if that's not your thing, try cauliflower, carrots, turnips or leeks. Actually, most any vegetable is important when you're trying to boost your body's muscle mass. And don't forget your fruits, either. Both fruits and vegetables are packed with nutrients that you will provide you with the energy you need to tackle intense weight-training routines. Most fish are also excellent sources of protein. Tuna and salmon are especially good when you're building muscle. As a bonus, you can purchase tuna at an extremely low cost. That's right, canned tuna provides a large dose of muscle-boosting protein. Eat a chopped salad full of green peppers, carrots and mushrooms with that tuna and you'll be giving your body its best chance to thrive during your workout. Finally, don't forget the legumes and grains. Most any variety of bean, from pinto and lima to kidney and fava, are loaded with muscle-building carbohydrates. Wild rice, lentils and whole barley are also terrific sources for these desirable carbohydrates. You may have to change the way you think about eating if you want to include as many of these nutrient-rich foods in your diet. Most of us are conditioned to eat three large meals every day. When you're building muscle, though, it's best to eat several small meals. Successful body builders eat as much as eight times a day. When you eat smaller meals, your body uses all of the nutrients you're giving it. When you eat meals that are too large, your body can't use all of the nutrients it is ingesting. It then stores these as fat. A proper diet is an essential part of any muscle-building fitness regime. By eating foods proven to provide the right nutrients, you'll truly be ready to build your muscle quickly.
