When I started my low carb diet, I found it was easy for me to follow it. Lots of meat and no fillers such as bread and pasta. Cool... a diet I could certainly live with. Steaks every night for dinner! Lasagna with the filling but no pasta... nice! That was great fun until our grocery bill doubled and tripled. But all of those cheap items that we used to fill up on were off-limits now. No bread for my sandwich means I eat more meat. No chips with my lunch as a cheap filler. No pasta means I'm filling up on the more costly meats and cheeses. The low carb lifestyle may cost a little bit more than refined carbs but there are plenty of ways to keep those costs under control. First step is to accept that it isn't a reason to go back to the old high-carb way of eating. As weight drops and stays off, you will feel better and be healthier. And that translates to lower doctor bills or co-pays. And there are still ways to trim the budget while you are trimming your waistline. Just because you buy meat doesn't mean you should buy lean filet mignon every night for dinner. Chicken thighs have a lot of meat on them and they are typically very low in cost. Look for sales on fresh meat and get adventuresome in your cooking. If you see some tough cuts of meat that are great deals, toss it in your crock pot in the morning with some herbs and slow cook it all day long for a special treat at a budget-pleasing cost. Breakfast eggs are a cheap staple and remember that herbs don't add any carbs to your morning eggs so be lavish with those flavors to give some variety to your morning at a reasonable cost. And you can bake up some yummy homemade cheap low carb muffins. Toss in some blueberries in season and you have a real treat! A low carb lifestyle can be a wonderful way of life. There are so many rich and delicious foods that can help you drop some weight. But if you start feeling that you can't trim your budget while keeping the carbs under control, start getting creative with your kitchen skills. Come up with some low-cost and low carb alternatives.
