A number of recent tests have shown that a low carb diet plan is not only a good weight loss diet it can also lower a diabetic's blood sugar levels and in many cases can return it to normal.

Type 2 diabetes has been directly linked to obesity and in turn an unhealthy lifestyle.
The NHS is deeply concerned by the phenomenal increase in the overall cost of diabetes medication. The costs in the UK are said to have increased by as much as 40% in the last five years and they believe this is just the beginning; they are set for a further massive increase with the onset of a predicted obesity epidemic.

Thankfully the current thinking for treating diabetes is changing from a diet high in carbohydrates to the exact opposite, a low carbohydrate diet. After all carbohydrates, when digested, convert into sugar.

Diabetes occurs when there is too much sugar in the blood. The body stops producing sufficient insulin, a hormone that has the task of converting sugar in the blood into energy, resulting in the increase in our blood sugar levels. This can lead to a serious heart condition and sometimes increases the risk of a stroke.

Until now the thinking was that the risk of a heart attack was paramount. So the best diet for a diabetic was considered to be one that would controls that risk, a diet high in carbohydrates and low in fatty proteins. Unfortunately this diet also contributed to weight gain which exacerbated the diabetes.

This is now thought to have been incorrect; there is growing evidence to show the exact opposite is in fact true. A number of recent studies have shown that a diet high in protein and low in carbohydrates lowers the blood sugar level and in many cases return the blood sugar back to normal.

So a low carb diet plan like the reliable Atkins diet will help you lose a ton of weight and do wonders for your diabetes

Oddly the recommended diet until now has been one high in carbohydrates, which converts into glucose a major source of sugar in the blood and piles on the pounds, aggravating the obesity. Try and lose weight on a high carbohydrate diet. The diet was aimed at the secondary risk the heart rather than the diabetes that caused the heart risk or the obesity that caused the diabetes.
