An enormous and critical ingredient to transforming your body and losing weight is your psyche. You already know what needs to be done, what foods you should be eating, that you should be exercising, but you're still not doing anything about it! This is because the only thing stopping you is your self and the mental blocks you have put up. These mental blocks are the excuses you use to put of what needs to be done today. My favourite excuse was the fact that I had tried many diets, they hadn't worked and therefore I wasn't going to lose any weight because my body was 'made this way'. I am sure you have your own favourite excuse. You have to change what you believe to be true. I believed I could not lose weight. So for starters, you have to realize that you have never truly tried to lose weight. If you did you wouldn't be out of shape anymore. It is not impossible to lose weight, no matter what you currently think to be true. Unfortunately by continually coming up with excuses you only reinforce them and they continue to hold you back. Time to change your thinking! The crucial thing that helped me in my quest for a healthier and slimmer body was making little changes that didn't seem drastic. Although small, these changes slowly but surely bought down my mental blocks and changed my entire belief about weight loss and how it could be achieved. What follows is one of those small changes. I had tried numerous diets however the two things I can be certain of are: 1. They did not work for me
The biggest problems diet systems or diet plans are that they are unbelievably difficult to stick to. They are far too restrictive and if you are someone who struggles to resist food or struggles with self-control (that's the person I was) then you will not be able to maintain it. In my case I would lose a few pounds but then I would revert back to my old ways, put the pounds back on sometimes an extra few for good measure! To lose weight and keep the weight off you need to make changes that you don't mind making and more importantly changes that don't feel restrictive so that you can maintain them happily. One of the simplest psychological tricks is to do with association. When you feel pleasure doing something your mind automatically links the act/experience with pleasure. If you think about that act/experience at some later date you will often be rushed with the same or similar pleasurable feeling. An example is a cough medicine I had when I was a child, it was a light green coloured medicine and to this day if I think of the bottle I cringe and retch a little! Now the trick with association is that you can manipulate it. Think of a food that you cannot eat, something that you REALLY dislike to the point it makes you sick. Now the next time you get a craving for a food that you really want but you know is bad for you, think about the food that makes you feel sick and then picture the food your craving. Repeat this over and over in your head. The first time it may even help to get a picture of the food you're craving and then think of the food you dislike while looking at the picture. Yes this may sound a little weird but what you are doing is associating that 'bad feeling' with the food you're craving which should after some practice reduce if not eliminate the craving. Your mind draws you to things that bring you pleasure and in the same way it pushes you away from things that are dangerous or make you feel bad. In this case you will be training your mind to associate the food you are craving with the bad feeling that comes with the food you truly dislike. Give this trick a go and I assure you it will work.
