There are times when losing weight can be a task. Many people begin their weight loss journeys with all intentions of succeeding; only to quit for one reason or another. However, there are things that can be done before taking the first steps toward shedding pounds that can aid in putting a solid support system in place. By utilizing these simple tools, dieting can be made easier and less stressful. Enlist the Help of a Friend Having one person in your corner that truly understands your struggle is imperative. Of course, everyone will want to show their support for you, however, everyone may not be ideal. This includes close family members. The goal is to avoid enlisting the help of someone who is likely to break beneath the weight of your complaints and grievances. You need someone who will do what needs to be done to talk your hand off of the cupcake before you pick it up. This also means that all sensitivity needs to be tossed out the window if you are serious about reaching you your goal. Set Realistic Goals Unfortunately, people set unrealistic goals for themselves when it comes to weight loss. Then, they're disappointed when their time frame has expired and they haven't reached them. To avoid letting yourself down, set goals that are attainable. Use a 90 day plan, as opposed to a yearly one. Anything can happen within a year that can throw you off course. Not only that, it's harder to make excuses when time is a factor. This will remove the temptation to slip up on a regular basis because you have another 9 months to work it off. Clean House It's hard to stick to a diet when you have a house full of everything you aren't supposed to eat. Before you begin dieting, have the friend that you enlisted come over. Together, go through your home and remove all unhealthy foods and snacks. If you feel like it's too much for you, let them do it. Remember, that it's all in an effort to create a foundation for you to build upon. The last thing you need in your life is temptation! Keep a Journal Last but definitely not least, keep a journal to detail your journey. This serves many purposes. First, you can keep track of the things that you are eating on a daily basis. Second, it gives you an opportunity to voice the emotions that you may experience while dieting without feeling judged. Third, you will have a record of your progress; giving you the option to go back and see how far you have come along. In conclusion, having a support system in place prior to starting your weight loss journey can make a big difference in how effective your efforts are. It's hard enough when you're battling weight problems; doing it alone only makes it more difficult. There is no reason to be ashamed in seeking help with such a personal issue. Yet, when you have a sturdy foundation and the help of someone who wants to see you succeed, the excursion is so much easier.
