One of the most dangerous times of year when it comes to putting on weight and body fat is the Christmas holiday. This is generally a time when we eat and drink more than we should, however it does not have to be like this.
There are several things we can do to make sure that our skinny jeans still fit us well into the new year.
Here are some of my top tips for beating the bulge during the festive period.
- Drink white wineinstead of beers and if your are going to drink spirits use a mixer like soda water instead of sugary fizzy drinks.
- Eat your veggies.When you are sitting down at6 your Christmas dinner start off eating your vegetables and then move on to the turkey. This will help you to feel fuller quicker and will mean that you avoid doing the damage caused by the roast potatoes.
- Go for a walkafter your Christmas dinner. This will help you burn off some of the calories you have consumed and will stop your body from storing them as body fat.
- Drink water between alcoholic drinks. This will keep you from getting dehydrated as well as stopping you from getting too many empty calories from alcohol. For best results alternate alcoholic drinks with a glass of water. You will also be thankful of this tactic in the morning.
- Stay away from the buffet table. This is where you will find pastries, cakes, chips and other unhealthy foods loaded with calories and trans fats. The buffet table should be avoided at all costs. If you must eat from the buffet we recommend that you go for lighter items such as sandwiches with fillings like turkey, chicken and even salads.
- Keep your exercise routine going. Just because everyone else is giving up exercise during the holidays doesn't mean you should too. Why not squeeze in an extra training session or class every week to make up for the fact that your healthy diet might suffer a bit over the holidays.
- Eat healthy foods before you go to your office party. This is another excellent way to stop yourself from hitting the buffet table when you get to the office party.
These are just a few ways of making sure that you don't gain too much weight over the holidays, however if you do fall off the wagon its important to not gets disheartened and start again with your healthy eating and exercising as soon as you can.
