A bit of research will show that there are 5 food that fight abdominal fat that are universally recognized by diet gurus in the weight loss business. These foods are found on nearly every list of foods to fight abdominal fat whether they are low-carb diets, calorie counting diets, or even low-fat diets. A few of these 5 foods that fight abdominal fat are actually quite high in fat, but low-fat weight loss plans seem to nearly always make an exception and advise to consume them in moderation.

Let's examine the first three foods to reduce belly flab as they are all high fat foods and seem to run counter intuitive to any weight loss plan.

The fact is, fats satisfy in ways that other foods do not. While they are calorie dense compared to protein and carbohydrates (the other two types of food composition) fats act on the tongue and consequently on the brain to produce a feeling of satiation. This satiation is an important part of having a diet program to lose fat that is easier to stick with. Easy diets are those diet that work because we have the will power to stay on course.

This has been a controversial addition to some of the fat fighting food list. You see, coconut oil is solid at room temperature and got a bad rap because of it. Coconut oil is a saturated fat, but it contains no trans fat at all. Coconut oil is high in medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs). Some studies have shown that MCFAs promote faster weight loss than other 'good' fats.

Coconut oil is high in lauric acid (an MCFA) which is also an amazing substance that fights viruses, bacterial infections and all sorts of protozoa harmful to the human body. Coconut oil is nearly 50% lauric acid. Some programs to eliminate candida from the body rely heavily on coconut oil's anti-fungal properties.

Berries are the most highly praised fruit in the weight loss world. Even highly carb restricted diets will eventually include serving of blueberries, strawberries, blackberries and raspberries. Of all the fruits, these are the lowest in carbohydrates. Having something sweet to break the monotony of savory foods in low carb diets can be a life saver.

Berries are very high in anti-oxidants which impart all sorts of health giving benefits. Also, if you are following any of the paleo or primal diets, both give thumbs up to the kind of food our hunter-gatherer ancestors would have found.

Vegetables of almost any kind will make the top 5 foods that fight abdominal fat on all diet plans. Of course, some vegetables do contain quite a large quantity of carbohydrates so it is best to know what you are eating in terms of sugars (natural or not) if you watch your carb intake. Generally, root veggies are not as helpful to a diet as above ground veggies. You can take it to the bank that you are allowed as much green, leafy rabbit type food on every single diet we have looked at.

Vegetables provide essential fiber to keep your digestive system in top form. If you are following a protein rich diet that excludes grains and legumes, you need something to balance the fiber intake.
