2. Fish and lean meat

When digesting protein, your body will burn more calories than it does with fats or carbohydrates. This is why high-protein meals are suggested for losing weight and in weight-training programs. Turkey is the leanest meat, containing high protein and also minimal fat. Meanwhile, fish like tuna and salmon are healthier since they contain less saturated fat and are high in omega-3 fatty acids that help prevent fat abs buildup. It is better to skip cured meat and sausages, as they are high in unsaturated fat.

3. Green vegetables

Green vegetables contain high amounts of vitamins and minerals. They also contain lots of fiber. With only a few calories, the fiber can keep your stomach feeling full for quite a long time. Starting your meal with a salad helps you to consume less of the main entrée, which also means less caloric intake. Iceberg lettuce has practically no fiber; so for a healthier salad, opt for spinach, broccoli or arugula.

4. Dairy products

When you are on a diet, there is no use avoiding dairy products such as milk and yoghurt. In fact, the calcium contained in dairy products is needed to help your body break down fat as well as prevent it from forming. However, it is necessary to select fat-free or low-fat versions of dairy products instead of the full-fat ones.

5. Green tea

Whether served hot or cold, green tea is very helpful in promoting your body's metabolism. Its high antioxidant content is also beneficial for neutralizing free radicals. Drinking four cups of tea daily can reduce 266 more calories per day. For a healthier drink, avoid bottled tea; instead, make your own fresh tea by steeping a tea bag in a cup of hot water for two minutes. If you want it cold, just add some ice cubes.
