Many people are able to, successfully lose weight, only to step on the scale some time down the road and find that they have regained it all back, and then some. One of the ironies about weight loss is that a history of losing weight, regaining it, losing it again, and regaining it again will affect your metabolism and make you gain weight in the long run. And no one wants that to happen! So if, your goal is to, not only lose weight, but also to maintain your weight loss, then this article is an excellent, starting point to help you achieve that goal.

It can be extremely tempting to tell yourself "I will start my exercise plan tomorrow, but for tonight, I'll enjoy this ice cream sundae!" The more you tell yourself this, the less likely you are, to embark on an exercise routine. If your goal is to lose weight, do not let your efforts be undermined by procrastination - start today!

Identify what your weight loss goals are, and create an exercise plan and a diet plan that will help you to meet those goals. Break your larger, long-term goals down into smaller, weekly goals. This will help your ultimate goals to seem much more manageable and achievable.

Although most Americans are used to eating three larger meals a day, most experts and nutritionists say that weight loss can be more easily achieved by eating six smaller meals evenly spaced throughout the day. This is easier on your digestive system, and makes you much less likely to get hungry during the day. When we are extremely hungry, we are at the greatest risk for making poor food decisions, and eating small meals more frequently significantly reduces this risk.

The average portion sizes in restaurants nowadays is considerably larger than the portions that nutritionists recommend. Take the time to educate yourself on what your portions should look like.

Sleep is vital and can have a significant impact on your motivation and dedication to your weight loss goals. We are more likely to make poor food choices when we feel sleep deprived, so always make sure you get at least eight hours of sleep a night, and you will be able to make wise choices of the food you need to eat.

Identify those people in your life who can act as a support network for you. Who will you call when you face a temptation or setback? Who will you talk to when you need extra motivation? Your support network can make an enormous difference in terms of you achieving your weight loss goals and sticking with your efforts.

If you have struggled to lose weight in the past, and have felt at times that successful weight loss and weight loss maintenance are impossible for you, then take heart. With some dedication on your part and a firm plan for losing weight, you will indeed be able to achieve your weight loss goals. It will take some work and effort on your part, but the rewards and benefits to you will be well worth the effort!
