Since the hallmark of a good diet plan is fruits, veggies, and lean meat, then no vegetarians should be overweight. As you figured, this premise is neither true nor logical. Diet Mistake #1: Skipping or Skimping on Breakfast

Breakfast is not only the most important meal of the day but also the time to splurge on high calorie foods. Skipping breakfast slows your metabolism and makes it harder to lose weight.

A little known fact among dieters is that breakfast, being the first meal of the day can also consist of your most fattening meal. This does not mean that you start your day with an unhealthy dose of calories. It means you can have that extra slice of whole-wheat toast and lean slices of meat to restore depleted energy from resting.

Diet Mistake #2: Not Counting Calories

If what you put in at the end of the day is more that the energy you expend, then you are storing fat.

Not counting calories is the single biggest unrecognizable mistake that dieters make. Knowing how much calories you eat is best done by writing it down or logging the amounts into your computer-whichever is easier--but journal entries must be kept.

We all know eating before bed-time is a no-no, so why do we do it? This is the time when our body prepares for its restorative phase. At this time your metabolism is at its lowest. Eating before bedtime is a recipe for fat storage and weight gain.

A rule of thumb is eat 3 hours before bedtime. If you must snack, a fruit, glass of warm milk, or green tea and toast are reasonable choices to indulge.
