Speed up metabolism and lose weight! I absolutely can't understand why anyone can doubt this fact? When you speed your metabolism up, your body burns more calories even when your at rest (sleeping). The reason for this is what we are going to discuss, if you wish? If not, I can't help you! I don't mean to be rude but the facts from too many studies, on this very subject, state this exact thing. If you want to lose weight, you have got to speed up your metabolism. Now that we have gotten that out of the way, let's look at what metabolism is. Let's start with the RMR that we all see in article after article. RMR (resting metabolic rate) is the energy required to perform vital body functions such as respiration and heart rate while the body is at rest. About 60 to 75% of one's daily energy (calories) burning, can be attributed to resting metabolic rate. The remaining 25 to 40% are burned from the digestion of food you eat and physical activity. Now that we know what RMR is, how do we know what our measurement is? What I mean by measurement, is the amount of calories you can ingest and burn off without building more fat. This is easy enough to find out by searching on your computer. What you need to search is RMR calculator. This will give you an easy formula. All you do is enter in your weight, height, gender and age. After you enter these the calculator will give you the amount of calories you can ingest and burn off. It's that simple to find out where you stand. What is needed to increase the amount of calories burnt? The amount of muscle tissue our bodies have is directly related to this. Muscle tissue is not what we want to lose when we diet. If we go on one of those starvation type diets, we will lose muscle tissue! I could give you types of food that rev up metabolism but for our purpose we want to talk about how muscle tissue is directly responsible to the amount of calories we burn. Exercise of some kind is a lifestyle change you will need to plug into your life if you have had trouble with weight loss. Before going any further on the amount of muscle tissue, I want to point to a little talked about, underestimated, fact! Understanding glycogen and what it can do to help you lose weight is often missed or completely left out when talking about speeding up metabolism to lose weight. Glycogen is what carbohydrates are transformed into when you ingest them and the form in which your body stores these calories. When you learn to manipulate glycogen you can lose weight by burning off fat and not losing muscle tissue. Muscle tissue is the major storage area for this chemical complex. The more muscle tissue you have the more storage area for glycogen. Two of the major energy sources are triglycerides(stored fat) and glycogen(stored carbohydrates) and these represent the way our body can be manipulated. What I mean by this is easy to understand if you have the information. When you exercise you strip your muscle tissue of glycogen. Remembering muscle tissue is also where you store glycogen this means the muscle tissue needs to be replenished of this glycogen. Knowing this, when you eat a meal and your glycogen level is low, the carb intake is going to be used to replenish your muscle tissue and the energy source that is targeted is triglycerides (stored fat). ABC 1,2,3, you burn fat and also your metabolism is manipulated. What this amounts to is you lose weight! Let's recap on what we just discussed. If you want to lose weight you absolutely want to speed up your metabolism. Muscle tissue directly impacts the speed of metabolism. Glycogen is key to burning fat. The more muscle tissue the more storage area for fat burning glycogen. Strip glycogen from their storage and the energy source left to be burnt is stored fat!
