But you should know that carbohydrates alone won't make you have a healthy body. Your body has to have a balanced amount of proteins, carbohydrates, water and fats plus exercise in order to maintain a healthy body. And the biggest problem we deal with in trying to lose weight is that we over indulge in high glycemic foods. Foods that contain too much sugar or foods that contain refined carbohydrates. Carbohydrates produce insulin and when your body produces excess glucose it gets stored as fat. You can counter that by eating proteins along with the carbohydrates. This produces glucagons and it is glucagons which promote the use of your bodies fat for energy. If you can keep your insulin and glucagons in balance you will maintain normal blood sugar levels. But if your body has too much insulin this promotes excess stored fat and can cause other types of health ailments. You really need to eat foods that are the lowest on the glycemic scale. If you want to eat potatoes you should eat yams or sweet potatoes because they are the lowest on the glycemic index. If you do eat yams and sweet potatoes you should use a natural substance like honey to sweeten your yams or sweet potatoes. Other foods you will want to avoid are white rice, pasta, and corn. Some foods you can indulge in almost as much as you like include broccoli, lettuce, brussel sprouts, beans and dairy and soy. Fat is really not as bad as people make it out to be. One real good rule to remember is that if you eat four ounces of protein don't eat over four ounces of carbohydrates. If you can train yourself to always do this one to one ratio you'll be much healthier. And over the long term you'll lose body fat. If you could eat six small meals a day and stick to the one to one ratio with the carbs and the proteins you will lose weight. But understand that these would need to be smaller meals than what you normally eat. I will caution you here though that if your sick you should consult your doctor before you start any weight loss program. And while it is very healthy to start walking if you are under a doctor's care discuss it with the doctor first. If you're a diabetic you really need to check your blood sugars on a regular basis and you can do this with a blood glucose meter. If your already a diabetic you probably already have one. If you do I would suggest writing down your blood sugar readings each time you take your blood sugar and take the written down readings to your doctor with you. This will give the doctor and you a real ideal of what your blood sugar levels are doing over a long term basis. As a type two diabetic I have had a real problem both with losing weight and with keeping it off.
