Fad Diets: Do They Really Work?


What is it with all the fad diets out there these days? Whether it be a low carb, low fat, or high protein diet, someone always has an idea to sell that is supposed to help you lose weight quick.

There are many fad diets on the market these days. There are low fat, low carb, high protein diets and this is just to name a few. When the truth of the matter is none of these diets help you keep the weight off and stay healthy. Fad diets may help you lose weight quick, but they deprive your body of what it needs to stay healthy. Once you have lost the weight and go back to your "old" way of eating you are going to gain the weight back and sometimes more.

You might ask, "What does work?" It is really simple. The most effective way to lose weight and keep it off is healthy food, portion control, exercise and a change in life style. You have to decide that losing weight is something you really want to do, then set your mind to doing it. This sometimes includes changing some things we do. Such as, how we cook, what we cook, and making time for ourselves to exercise. It is not going to matter if we chose healthy foods and don't prepare them healthy and if all we do is sit in front of a TV or computer all day.

Your body needs the proper nutrients to function and develop properly. Also, exercise is the key to weight loss. We all need to exercise at least 60 minutes each day even if it is just walking.

The best way to achieve weight loss is not a fad diet at all, but a way of life. Enjoy healthy food, prepare it healthy and exercise and you will gain optimal health.

The truth of the matter is IF a fad diet worked we would all be on one. But, in reality fad diets don't work to help you lose weight and keep it off. You may lose the weight quickly on a fad diet, but the truth of the matter is you will gain it back just as quick and probably more.

Anything worth having requires a little time, effort and patience. But, in the long run it will be worth it and you will be glad you stuck with it.
