Chances are, at some point in your life you have wanted to lose a few pounds and change your diet. But for some reason you come up with a list of excuses why you can't or won't make that change. Let's take a look at some of these and see that not only do they prevent you from getting what you want, but also they just don't stand up and hold any water. Here are your top 10 Excuses. 1. 'I don't have the time' Of all the excuses which people use this has to be the top one. It's funny but the same people who don't have the time will be fully up to speed when it comes to the latest soap opera or reincarnation of reality TV. If we are honest with our-selves time is not the reason why we don't make the effort, it's just another excuse to justify being overweight or unhealthy. Seriously how much time does it take to go for a walk after tea or prepare some healthy alternative for lunch instead of your usual diet? 2. 'I can't afford it' When it comes to your health you cannot put a price on it. Do you have a friend or family member who suffers with some form of illness or disease? How much would they pay to have their health back? Prevention is better than cure. You don't have to buy exotic fruits and vegetables or spend out on Gym memberships. Despite what you may think it doesn't cost any more to live a healthy lifestyle than it does to live on junk food. It is actually cheaper. Regardless of your income you can afford to exercise and keep healthy. 3. 'I'm naturally fat it's in my genes' True you may look fat in your Jeans but you do not have fat in your Genes. Is it really down to your parents? Some ailments and pre-dispositions can be hereditary. My parents were fat so that's why I'm overweight too: it's simply because you lived in the same house, ate the same food and probably watched the same amount of TV. Weight gain is the result of one thing: eating too much of the wrong types of foods, and not exercising 4. 'I don't eat much' Not everyone who is overweight has to be consuming bucket loads of food, but to say 'I don't eat anything' is a little far from the truth. Remember it's not just food which causes you to gain weight. All of those sugary drinks can play a massive part. Sugar in tea and coffee, alcohol, fizzy pop and even energy drinks can make a difference. 5. 'I have a slow metabolism' Myth: People who are overweight have a slower metabolism than people who are slim. Many people do believe that the bigger you are the slower your metabolic rate is. The fact is the bigger you are the quicker your metabolism works. Bigger people will burn more calories than light people; obviously lugging a larger body around is going to require more energy. So using your metabolism as an excuse for not losing weight just doesn't cut the mustard. 6. 'I'm too old' The fact is, the older you are the more important it becomes to look after yourself. Using your age or advancing in years is just yet another excuse. Life isn't a rehearsal, grab it with both hands and enjoy it! If you think you are too old to exercise and lose weight then you're right. Until you change the way you think. Your physical age should have nothing to do with what you want to achieve, it should be about what you feel inside. I can guarantee if you do get yourself in shape, no matter what age you are, you will feel so much younger inside and out. 7. 'Compared to most people I'm doing ok!' One of the biggest mistakes in life that we can make is by comparing ourselves to others, and that includes all aspects of our life. But this is especially important when it comes to our body shape and being overweight. Do you look at your friends or family members and say; they are bigger than me so I'm not so fat after all. If you play a particular sport and want to feel as if you are actually better than what you are, then go play with people who aren't as good as you. True it may help you feel better for about 5 minutes, but you know it's not going to help you progress and push yourself to your true potential. The only person you should be com-paring yourself to is yourself! Don't settle for comparing yourself to others to measure your own success, no matter what your body shape is, always strive to be the best you can be. Then you may have your friends trying to emulate your fine example. 8. 'What's the point, I'll never be thin' You may well be saying to yourself I'm never going to be like a stick insect so what's the point? Losing weight and upping your fitness level should be about improving your body shape and fitness from what it is now! If you are fat then chances are you will have any of a number of complaints and diseases which are a direct result of being overweight. Things like diabetes, heart disease, etc. wouldn't it be great to have a body that was free of these things? It's not about trying to look like Cheryl Cole; it's about looking after and preserving what you have. 9. 'I could get run over by a bus next week' This is one of those excuses people will use when trying to relieve themselves of any responsibility, it's a bit like the person who puts off paying that credit card bill or puts off going to the doctor, but sooner or later they will have to deal with it. And so it is with your health. Life is too short, and unless you start to think about your health it could be sooner rather than later. 10. 'I have an injury so I can't exercise' You may of come across people who say they can't exercise because of some sports injury, sprained ligament etc. Even if you are confined to a wheelchair you should still be able to do some forms of exercise. If you struggle with your legs do some upper body exercises or even breathing exercises. Just earlier this year I remember watching the TV coverage and learning about Eddie Kidd: The world famous motor cycle stunt man who after a horrific accident on August 6th 1996 left him severely brain damaged and crippled to the state where he could hardly walk. Well earlier this year Eddie walked the whole 26 miles of the London marathon in 43 days. He makes us mere mortals look quite puny in comparison. Whatever injury you have don't let it be an excuse to not achieve your health and fitness goals. Now that we have all the excuses behind us, now make the commitment to yourself that you are going to achieve what you set out to do. Whether you old, young, busy, out of work or whatever circumstances you find yourself in, do yourself a favour: No More Excuses.
